My situation was unique in that I had already taken a CWL course with another provider prior to signing up with Omi at CWLMiami.com. (My prior certificate was lost, and the instructor could not be located...ughh) So it was the benefit of having something to compare his program to that made me realize the quality of his course and the level of advanced training that he had to share. My prior experience was mostly anecdotal with a bunch of 'good-ole-boys' sitting around telling stories about their supposed near-death experiences and what they might do differently if they were armed. The worst part was, it was full of misinformation...the kind that could land you in jail for a LONG time.
I found Omi's website on Google, and while his course was a no-frills operation, the price of the course fairly reflected that...and turned out to be a true bargain when considering the amount of information, oversight and instruction that was provided in a clear, concise manner, all the while citing state statutes and case law to back up the material. Another glaring omission from my prior course was the actual hands-on training in the safe operation of a real handgun. Much to his credit, Omi's position was clear in that no student would pass his course without successfully demonstrating the proper handling and use of a real pistol. He even provided an impressive selection of loaner handguns for our use and benefit. As someone that currently doesn't own a handgun, it sure was nice to spend actual range-time with a few of the better handguns out there to get an idea what I'd like to carry (special thanks to Ian for the S&W loaner!).
Another thing I noticed was the variety of students including men, women, boys and girls of all ages and sizes. I'm 41 years old and I've been actively shooting long-rifles and shotguns since I was four, so I was no stranger to the range or to guns in general, but there were several students that had never used a gun of any type,
